Listen to my postcard
Digital photography, Audio composition, Text — 2021
Listen to my postcard unfolds as a long-distance correspondence developed during the COAPPARATION residency at thealit Frauen.Kultur.Labor. Working in dialogue across the distance between Bremen and Cairo, Farzad Golghasemi and sound artist Yara Mekawei address a series of the city’s buildings—wartime bunkers, a harbor with colonial tracers, and modernist constructs—as recipients of an imagined postcard. Each structure is met twice: through Golghasemi’s architectural photography and accompanying texts on memory, material, and displacement, and through Mekawei’s soundtracks and verse. Neither translation arrives intact; the correspondence proceeds as a mutual estrangement, listening to architecture as one might read a message sent from elsewhere.
